Important
Legal Preliminaries to the Ceremony
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Before you can be married, the Superintendent must issue
an authority declaring that the legal preliminaries
to the Ceremony have been properly performed.
Normally, the authority will be kept for you at the
Register Office awaiting issue at the time of your Marriage.
However, if one or both parties have their normal place
of residence outside the Registration District, they
will need a similar authority from the Superintendent
of their own district.
It is important that this is collected from the other
district and delivered before the wedding to the Registrar
at the Register Office under whose jurisdiction the
ceremony will take place. Without the correct
authority, the Ceremony will not be able to proceed.
Please see Legal Preliminaries
for more information.
