A Register Office marriage used to consist of a simple
ceremony held in front of an office desk. A civil
ceremony can vary between a simple affair with
just two witnesses and something more elaborate which
can include the bride being given away, the presence
of bridesmaids, readings of your own choice and the
use of your own video recorder.
The sections to the left are intended
as a guide to the preliminaries and legal requirements
of a civil ceremony. While we have tried to make
the information offered as comprehensive as possible,
you are advised to check your own wedding arrangements
with the Register Office for the district in which you
intend to marry. The Register Offices as a whole
are committed to customer care and providing a high
level of service and the Superintendent Registrars
will be happy to help and advise you.
